Searchlight Care Services Ltd provide residential accommodation for children and young people up to the age of 18 years who display emotional and/or behavioural difficulties on a 2:1 basis. We specialise in single occupancy or dual occupancy placements that gives a consistent and homely approach who reside in our homes and we achieve GOOD and OUTSTANDINGS from OFSTED

Job Overview

To promote the welfare, safety, personal development and well being of Young People being cared for by Searchlight Care Services Ltd.


To ensure that the physical, emotional and psychological needs of the Young People are met where at all possible.

Description

  • To participate in the day-to-day operation of the service provided in accordance with the organisational guidelines and objectives.

  • To create within the home, a normal domestic and nurturing environment for the Young People in Searchlight Care’s care.

  • To be aware of Searchlight Care Statement of Purpose and its contents and how it is to be implemented on a day-to-day basis.

  • To be aware of Searchlight Care guidelines on Code of Conduct and to set an acceptable role model standard.

  • To participate in the care and education programmes applicable to each individual young person.

  • To contribute to the reviewing and monitoring process in the development of each individual Placement Plan.

  • To promote and uphold anti-discriminatory practices and equal opportunity practices in line with Company policy.

  • To create a friendly and relaxed environment for the young people encouraging enjoyment, self-motivation, self-esteem and respect for themselves and others.

  • To provide young people with information and advice where appropriate or to help them to seek advice from appropriate sources.

  • To play an active part and promote the participation of young people, in the decision-making process of the home.

  • To be aware, familiar with and observe the Company guidelines on Health and Safety, Fire safety procedures and Food Hygiene.

  • To assist with the process of developing effective partnerships with parents and families.

  • To assist with the day-to-day administration of the home by completing and maintaining accurate recordings.

  • To assist in the maintenance, good house keeping and up keep of the home.

  • To support and maintain effective working relationships with all other staff and to promote good relationships with local residents and general community.

  • To promote and uphold the good reputation of the company in all contact with external agencies and individuals.

  • To contribute to the development of individuals and the team through active participation in effective supervision, team meetings, training sessions etc.

  • To fully participate in the rota system and to be available for sleep in duties as required.

  • To undertake such duties as may be required by the Deputy Manager, Registered Manager or Responsible Individual.

  • To work alongside the young people to help develop a true sense of identity and feel of self worth through life story work.

  • To work with the young people and prospective carers to ensure the young persons successful integration into a family or other residential placement.

  • To perform ad hoc tasks as and when required.

  • To work effectively alongside other team members to ensure the young people develop in a caring and consistent environment/atmosphere.

  • To contribute to the normal development of the young people to enable them to reach their fullest potential by providing a stimulating and varied lifestyle.

  • To act as a member of the staff team, supporting colleagues and being prepared to receive support as necessary.

  • To attend and participate in staff meetings.

  • To act flexibly, within reasonable bounds, in order to ensure the necessary cover for the home.

  • To inform colleagues of relevant developments, for example during handover.

  • To advise Deputy Manager, Registered Manager or Responsible Individual of ill health  at the earliest opportunity in order for suitable cover to be sought.

  • To share in the practical activities necessary to maintain the home.

  • To set high standards in home making.

  • To care for the fabric, equipment and grounds.

  • To be accountable for monies allocated for specific purposes.

  • To take responsibility for running the household effectively, setting and maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

  • To ensure the young people have a balanced diet.

  • To adhere to Health and Safety Regulations and Procedures.

  • To be responsible for accurate, concise recording of information about the young people.

  • To keep abreast of good practice in order to develop skills, knowledge and experience, in accordance with your personal development contract.

  • To make use of regular supervision.

  • To report to the Registered Manger or other appropriate person, malpractice or evidence which may suggest it.

  • To attend in-house and external training to develop skills, knowledge and experience.

  • To commit to ongoing personal and professional development.

  • This position is subject to a 6-month probation period, unless otherwise stated by Registered Manager.

  • The holder of this position is expected to maintain confidentiality and observe GDPR guidelines.

  • The rota pattern may change at short notice.

  • The holder of this post may be required to perform physical intervention in accordance with our written policy, upon completion of relevant training.

Skills and Experience

  • A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) Check is required.

  • The willingness to complete an NVQ Level 3-4 Diploma in Children and Young People.
